Field Trip: Arise — Women Healing the Environment: Seacoast NH Permaculture Film & Food Night

March 24, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

We will be tabling at this event, organized by Seacoast NH Permaculture

Description from the organizer:

During Women’s History Month, let’s watch: “Arise – Women Healing the Environment” (2012, 78 mins). On every continent, women are working to protect and restore the natural environment, and empowering others to respect the earth. Arise presents the stories of a diverse group of 13 women in five countries who have initiated solution-oriented environmental projects in their communities, towns and villages including: replanting trees in Kenya, preserving sacred Native lands, protecting the rainforest in Ecuador, transforming food through urban agriculture, training women to build and install solar lights, and organizing to combat climate change.

Through these hopeful examples and new models, the women in the film challenge our current way of thinking about the environment, and encourage a shift in values to find a different, healthier way to view our relationship to the earth.

LOGISTICS: We will start with the film (feel free to come early to get settled), then have a potluck & discussion. Please bring a “potluck kit” – dish, bowl, cup, silverware, napkin – as well as your potluck contribution. We will be able to plug in crockpots, heat some items up, make hot water for tea.

PARKING: Parking available – but not free – in the Campus Crossing Visitor Lot which you can access from Mill Rd. across from Waysmeet, with the MUB on the far side of the lot. It’s no longer free on Sundays – use the pay and display stations!

COST: We will be taking donations of any amount to cover costs for the event – purchasing the film and a screening license cost.

Sponsored by Seacoast Permaculture, The United Campus Ministry to UNH & Feminist Oasis

Our Film & Food nights are a chance for us to come together for both learning and getting to know each other better. We ask that you come with an open mind and heart to new information and new friends.

We hope that our film choices will teach everyone something they didn’t know before and/or challenge ideas you have held. In our potluck and discussion we will also be looking to give everyone a chance to share and feel a part of the group. We believe that everyone has something worthwhile to contribute and the discussion leaders will help to facilitate the event so that there is space for all to share some part of themselves and what they bring.

These discussions are an opportunity to voice initial reactions to the film and topics at hand. We hope the discussion leads to opportunities for further conversations between all there, on the website afterwards, and via further research each person might do.
