I quit my last corporate job 2+ years ago, and my baby business turns 6 months old today. Yes—it’s difficult to celebrate with what’s happening in our country right now, and—it makes it that much more meaningful that I’m now able to focus my time on things I deeply care about.
I’m grateful that I had the privilege to make the choice to quit a job that was so far out of alignment with my values. I want to do my part now to increase the chances that others can see a pathway to make that choice for themselves, too. That’s my “why” for Feminist Oasis.
We are cultivating feminist community, advancing equitable practices and building sustainable alternatives to white supremacist, capitalist patriarchy.
Step one is education of our community on what those alternatives can look like, and why they’re necessary. A big part of that education is communicating that our goal is not to reverse gendered oppression—it’s to dismantle unhealthy power structures & systemic oppression altogether, for the equity of all. Feminism transcends gender. Feminism transcends party. Feminism is for everybody.
Step two is creating spaces for healing collective trauma & regenerating healthy community. We try to do this with an underlying sense of *play! fun! celebration!* & a commitment to lift each other up. That’s why our first event was Beyoncé’s Lemonade + Feminist Theory!
As we grow, we’re asking for input from our community on how to best to strike the balance of being accessible and inclusive to all while remaining committed to our mission/ulterior motive: building sustainable alternatives to white supremacist, capitalist patriarchy.
